The life cycle wheel represents the happiness of each individual, breaking the grades of happiness down into different areas of life which are scored from 0 to 10.
We use a magnet life cycle wheel on a thin square metal sheet against a light background on which we stamp a series of words or symbols that represent the life cycle wheel. These magnets can be placed on the fridge to offer a fantastic reminder of our improvement process.
Factors are defined as the needs or desires which users would like to have in each one of the mentioned areas of the life cycle wheel to be happy and satisfied.
These factors are based on the hygienic and motivating factors defined by Frederick Herzberg (North American psychologist and consulter. Professor at the University of UTAH) in order to explain people’s behavior at work.
It’s ok because the objective is not complete precision, but rather the configuration of options that allow each person to discover what they desire and are interested in. The user may include his/her new factor.
If the factor generated does not perfectly respond to the preference it can be left as a free quality that allows the person to shape the factor. However it is important to generate options that help the user to find his/her factors.
According to the lowest evaluated areas in the life cycle wheel or the ones the user may be interested in, the stages in the development of factors will be the following:
-Detect the different factors required for each area of the life wheel,
-Indicate if the factors are either necessary or motivating,
-Arrange them by order of importance,
-Show the factors that are fulfilled at each moment, studying the rules in order to know which ones should be fixed in the first place.
The first step consists of listing those factors which the user would like to have, in each area of the life cycle wheel. In the beginning, a distinction between necessary and motivating factors will not be required. In order to create this list, the Autocoaching database will be the reference. It will be mentioned later in the variety coaching. The following figure shows an example of factors used for personal development.
In this second step we must point out whether each factor is either necessary or encouraging. Necessary are the essential and indispensable requirements that should always be present in each part of our lives but at this point may not be. By encouraging we refer to those elements that despite not being essential, do contribute in the improvement of the situation.
Once the types of factors are pointed out, it is useful to arrange them from less to more important, in order to detect the grade that we assign each one
Finally, the most important part of all is the factors current fulfillment indication. When the factor is not fulfilled, this causes the individual stress (which increases if they are necessity factors).
Those actions that we get involved in and those that guide us to know ourselves better.
In order for the client to be happier it will be necessary for him to mark a number of changes in order to be able to satisfy all his/her factors. When we speak of changes, we refer to those actions that we get involved in and those that guide us to feeling better. Like the factors, they are personal and should never be generalized by race, religion or sex, even though one can find conduct patterns
Changes are made to suggest actions that allow us to fulfill each of the factors selected. It has taken over a year of work to reach suggested changes from the factors designed.
The main components that should be included to define change are its very description, the distinct options and scenarios necessary to achieve it, and the date of the commitment. We have the option to include a prize as a reminder.
Description of the change: an objective phrase should be specific and capable of measuring.
Options: Different forms or ways of being able to reach the change. It is always necessary to recognize the obstacles that we come across, as well as the help that can come our way.
Date: Moment in which we compromise ourselves to have finished our change.
Prize: If we wish we will obtain a prize once we have accomplished our changeA prize can be included optionally that we will reach why we reach the change.
Structures or reminders: These are the things that make us remember our task. For example, a post-it that will remind us or a small electronic trick that reminds us what we have to do.
The stages for the creation and follow up of the changes are the following:
List different changes aimed to satisfy all the factors,
Arrange them by their rank of importance,
Follow up of the long time changes.
Once the factors that currently are not being carried out are specified, especially if they are necessities, changes should be made in order to achieve short or long term fulfillment.
